What types of meals are available?
Meals at Home provides two meals a day: one hot and one cold. These nutritious meals are supplied by St. Francis Hospital, NorthShore University HealthSystem (Evanston Hospital), Three Crowns Park, Jilly's Cafe, and Curt's Cafe. All food from the hospital kitchens is low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol. Also available are medically prescribed diets such as diabetic, cardiac, renal, or salt free. During the winter season, a soup and sandwich combination is available from Capt’n Nemo’s.
When are meals delivered?
Caring volunteers deliver meals Monday through Saturday between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. If requested, meals are delivered on holidays, unless the holiday falls on a Sunday.
What is the cost of the meals?
What other services are offered?
A grocery shopping service is available to our clients. Our volunteers will shop for a variety of foods, toiletries, and paper products for the client. The client must be receiving meals at least two to three times per week. Other than the cost of the groceries, there is no fee for this service.
Meals at Home offers a Friendly Visit Program at no fee to those who receive meals. Clients may choose to have visits either in-home or by telephone. Those who have participated in this program say they have made great new friends.
Special guest speaker Susan Cherco will share exciting news regarding the Age Friendly Evanston initiative. Ms. Cherco is the chairperson of this exciting task force that is part of an international effort to help prepare for a global demographic trend: the rapid aging of populations.
